Maruti Suzuki on Friday launched the new Brezza Turbo Boosterjet at an introductory price of Rs 7.39 lakh, bringing a new turbo-petrol engine, underbody CNG tank, upgraded safety package and a richer feature list as it looks to regain ground in India’s intensely competitive sub-compact SUV segment.The biggest change is the introduction of the 997cc Boosterjet turbo-petrol engine, producing 110.2 PS and 170 Nm of torque, paired with a six-speed manual transmission. The new powertrain addresses one of the Brezza’s biggest shortcomings against rivals such as the Tata Nexon, Hyundai Venue and Kia Sonet, which have long offered turbocharged petrol options. Maruti claims a fuel efficiency of 20.47 km/l for the turbo-petrol version.“We add a new dimension of driving excitement that matches the energy and vibe of Young India,” said Partho Banerjee, Senior Executive Officer, Marketing & Sales, Maruti Suzuki India.The updated Brezza also receives a significant technology upgrade with a 10.1-inch SmartPlay Pro X touchscreen infotainment system, featuring internet connectivity, over 35 connected-car applications, OTA updates, Alexa voice assistance, and wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The cabin has also been refreshed with a more premium interior theme and enhanced convenience features.On the safety front, Maruti Suzuki said the SUV has been engineered with the goal of achieving a five-star Bharat NCAP safety rating, marking a major shift in the company’s positioning as buyers increasingly prioritise safety.The aggressive pricing positions the Brezza strongly against rivals, including the Tata Nexon (Rs 7.40 lakh onwards), Mahindra XUV 3XO (₹7.54 lakh onwards), Hyundai Venue (Rs 7.94 lakh onwards) and Skoda Kylaq (around Rs 7.59 lakh onwards). With a lower entry price, turbo-petrol performance, upgraded technology and improved safety credentials, Maruti Suzuki is aiming to strengthen the Brezza’s appeal in a segment that now accounts for more than 30 per cent of India’s passenger vehicle market, compared with just 5 per cent a decade ago.Meanwhile, the existing 1.5-litre K15C petrol engine continues in the line-up with Progressive Smart Hybrid technology, but now gets a six-speed manual transmission in addition to the six-speed automatic unit with paddle shifters. The petrol variant delivers a claimed fuel economy of 21.09 km/l.Another major update is the reworked S-CNG version, which now features an underbody-mounted CNG tank, preserving boot space, a common concern among CNG buyers.
