Toplofikatsiya Sofia will increase heating distribution service fees by nearly 40%, marking the first revision of the charges in four years. Despite the percentage increase, the additional monthly cost for most households will be relatively modest, according to Kremen Georgiev, chairman of the Association of District Heating Companies.
Speaking on Bulgarian National Television, Georgiev explained that Toplofikatsiya sells thermal energy to the building's subscriber station, after which a separate heat accounting service distributes the costs among individual apartments. “When Toplofikatsiya sells heat energy, it sells it to the subscriber station, and someone has to distribute it among the subscribers. Naturally, someone has to pay for this service. There are specific costs that are converted into the price for heat accounting,” he said.
Georgiev noted that the most common home in Bulgaria is a two-room apartment measuring between 60 and 80 square meters. Such a property typically has three radiators equipped with heat allocators, one riser, and two water meters. Before the increase, the annual fee for servicing this setup was around 25 euros. Following the price adjustment, the annual charge will rise to approximately 35 euros.
