Buti Manamela says SETAs must focus on outcomes, accountability and public value as government strengthens oversight following governance failures that led to interventions at several skills development authorities.
Higher Education and Training Minister Buti Manamela has warned Sector Education and Training Authorities (SETAs) that institutions which obstruct oversight, misuse public resources or persistently fail to perform will face consequences, as government moves to strengthen governance across the country’s skills development system.
Addressing the induction of newly appointed SETA Accounting Authorities and Chief Executive Officers in Boksburg on Thursday, Manamela said the programme marked the beginning of a governance and performance reset for SETAs as part of the government’s broader Skills Revolution.
He warned that while institutions that cooperate with oversight bodies and address weaknesses would receive support, those that undermine accountability would face action.
"Where there is obstruction, concealment, persistent non-performance, the misuse of public resources, or defiance of lawful oversight - there will be consequences."
