According to the military, Zein-Nur was detained in line with operational procedures due to the security situation in the area and the frequent use of border corridors by terrorist groups for movement and logistics.
The Nigerian military has reversed its earlier position on a man previously reported as a terror suspect, saying investigations found no evidence linking him to any terrorist group.
In a statement issued on Thursday by the Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI, the military said the individual, identified as Aboubakar Muhammad Zein-Nur, also known as Houdairi, was taken into custody by troops of the 68 Battalion during an exploitation operation following the attack on Cross Kauwa.
According to the military, Zein-Nur was detained in line with operational procedures due to the security situation in the area and the frequent use of border corridors by terrorist groups for movement and logistics.
“Comprehensive intelligence assessments and other investigative processes did not establish that the individual has any affiliation to any known terrorist group,” the statement said.
