(Representative image)MUMBAI: Heavy rain in Maharashtra's Palghar district disrupted train services on the Western Railway network on Thursday after rivers flowing beneath railway bridges crossed the danger mark, forcing authorities to regulate rail traffic between Dahanu Road and Valsad.According to Western Railway, train movement on Bridge No. 203 between Umargam Road and Gholvad was suspended at 4.43 am after the river level reached the danger mark. Services resumed at 6.50am with a speed restriction of 15 kmph.Operations were also temporarily suspended on Bridge No. 230 in Sanjan Yard and Bridge No. 284 between Udvada and Vapi after water levels rose above the danger mark.The disruption led to the cancellation of 52 trains, while 46 services were short-terminated and 19 diverted, Western Railway said.Among the cancelled trains were the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Express, Bandra Terminus-Ramnagar Express, Mumbai Central-Gandhinagar Vande Bharat Express, Virar-Valsad Passenger and Bandra Terminus-Surat Intercity Express.Several trains already en route were also affected. The Surat-Mumbai Central Flying Rani was short-terminated at Udhna, while the Surat-Virar Express was curtailed at Valsad. Several other services were regulated to ease congestion on the affected section.Suburban services in the northern section of the Western Railway were also impacted. The Churchgate-Dahanu Road local was terminated at Vangaon, with services between Vangaon and Dahanu Road cancelled. The return Dahanu Road-Borivali local instead originated from Vangaon.Western Railway said senior officials and engineering teams were deployed to monitor water levels and inspect tracks and bridges. Normal services will resume only after floodwaters recede and the route is declared safe for operations.
