Rail traffic between Gujarat and Mumbai was disrupted on Thursday after flooding in South Gujarat forced Western Railway to suspend operations on a key rail bridge, affecting 18 trains, including the cancellation of premium services such as the Vande Bharat Express and the Shatabdi Express operating between Mumbai and Gujarat.Western Railway said train operations on Railway Bridge No. 203 between Gholvad and Umargam Road stations in its Mumbai Central Division were temporarily suspended as a precautionary measure to ensure passenger safety amid flooding. In all, 14 trains were fully cancelled, one train was short-originated, and three others were diverted.Vande Bharat, Shatabdi among trains cancelledBesides the two Vande Bharat services and the Shatabdi Express, the cancelled trains included the Bandra Terminus–Ahmedabad Karnavati Express, Mumbai Central–Ahmedabad AC Double Decker Express, Bandra Terminus–Ahmedabad Lokshakti Express, Ahmedabad–Dadar Gujarat Mail, Bhuj–Bandra Terminus Kutch Express, Bhuj–Dadar Sayaji Express, Ahmedabad–Valsad Gujarat Queen Express, Vadnagar–Valsad Superfast Express, Bhuj–Bandra Terminus AC Express, Ahmedabad–Mumbai Central Special, and Ahmedabad–Borivali Express.Diversions in place as heavy rain continuesThe Dadar–Ahmedabad Gujarat Mail was short-originated from Valsad instead of Dadar. Meanwhile, the MGR Chennai Central–Ahmedabad Humsafar Express, Ahmedabad–Pune Express, and Pune–Ahmedabad Duronto Express were diverted via alternate routes to bypass the affected section. The disruption comes as incessant rainfall battered South Gujarat, triggering flooding in parts of Valsad, Navsari and Surat districts and impacting road and rail connectivity across the region.
