U.S. senators have included financial sanctions against Iran in the bipartisan sanctions package against Russia.
According to Politico, Senate Majority Leader John Thune said this, Ukrinform reports.
"It was a late add. I think everybody's fine with it because we would do it anyway. Iran sanctions is something we've had in place for the last 30 years," Thune said.
Senators have been working for several months on a bipartisan bill imposing sanctions against Russia and countries that buy Russian oil. Recently, work on the document intensified thanks to the efforts of Senator Lindsey Graham, who was one of the main supporters of the bill.
Thune expressed confidence that the Senate would be able to pass the updated sanctions package before the start of the August recess.
