Veteran actor Seputla Sebogodi, famed for his role as Kenneth Mashaba in 'Generations', will be buried on Saturday following a celebratory memorial on Thursday at the South Africa State Theatre in Pretoria.
The South African State Theatre became a place of remembrance, reflection and celebration on Thursday as family, friends, colleagues and admirers gathered to honour veteran actor, musician and cultural icon Seputla Sebogodi at a memorial service that celebrated a life dedicated to the arts.
Broadcast live on South African State Theatre TV, the memorial drew leading figures from South Africa’s entertainment industry, who paid tribute to a man whose career spanned decades across theatre, television and film.
The stage, draped in white with floral arrangements, illuminated candles and four large banners bearing Sebogodi’s image, created a fitting backdrop for an afternoon filled with music, storytelling and heartfelt reflection.
Veteran actor Patrick Bokaba delivered one of the day’s most personal tributes, sharing stories of growing up with Sebogodi in Atteridgeville. Recalling their childhood, their early struggles and their journey through the entertainment industry, Bokaba painted a picture of a lifelong friendship built on resilience, humour and a shared passion for storytelling. Accompanied on stage by veteran actor Jerry Mofokeng, the tribute reminded mourners of the humble beginnings that shaped one of South Africa’s most respected performers.
