Tributes continue to pour in for veteran actor and theatre icon Seputla Sebogodi, with colleagues, government leaders and the creative industry remembering him as a humble giant of South African storytelling whose remarkable career inspired generations of performers.
Sebogodi died on July 15 after suffering complications related to diabetes, his family confirmed.
The acclaimed actor built a career that spanned theatre and television, earning widespread recognition for his performances in Generations, Suburban Bliss, Bophelo ke Semphego, Redemption and, most recently, Scandal!. His celebrated theatre credits included Big Dada, Waiting for Godot, The Rivonia Trial, and Once a Pirate and Mooi Street Moves, among many others.
Many say he will be remembered not only for his unforgettable performances on stage and screen, but also for his generosity, mentorship and unwavering contribution to South Africa’s creative landscape. Mourners say his legacy will endure through his remarkable body of work and the countless artists he inspired and mentored over the course of several decades.
Gauteng MEC for Education, Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation, Lebogang Maile, described Sebogodi as a legendary figure whose influence on the country’s creative sector will endure.
