A 60-year-old man who stabbed and injured two American tourists at an entrance to the Acropolis on Tuesday has been remanded in prison following his testimony before an investigating magistrate.
The defendant, a Greek citizen, faces charges of two cases of attempted murder and illegal possession of a weapon.
The investigating judge accepted his defense’s request for the defendant to undergo a psychiatric evaluation.
According to information, the man had a history of hospitalizations in psychiatric clinics and was discharged from one such institution three days before the incident.
The man is accused of attacking a man and a woman, both Greek Americans, with a knife early Tuesday morning.
