The State government has informed the Kerala High Court that compensation has been paid to the survivors and the families of the victims in the Mundathikode fireworks accident.The Centre sought time to address the court’s enquiry whether any additional compensation could be paid to the victims of the accident.A Division Bench of Chief Justice Soumen Sen and Justice V.M. Syam Kumar had earlier directed the government to report on the steps taken to prevent accidents due to mishandled fireworks.A series of explosions had occurred in a makeshift fireworks assembly unit at Mundathikode, Thrissur, in April. The incident resulted in 17 deaths, over 24 injured, and damage to around 50 houses. Paramekkavu and Thiruvambady Devaswom Boards had organised the fireworks display ahead of the annual Thrissur Pooram. Published - July 23, 2026 06:53 pm IST
