Mother cuts mould from donated bread to feed her children as unemployment crisis bites.

A 47-year-old mother of three, who graduated Cum Laude has spent the past 18 months desperately searching for work. The woman is now standing at traffic lights asking strangers for food so her children do not go to bed hungry.

The heartbreaking story was shared by KwaZulu-Natal non-profit organisation Pay It Forward (PIF), which said the woman has exhausted every avenue in her search for employment and has reached the point where survival is her only priority.

According to PIF, the mother does not ask passing motorists for money or luxuries.

"She goes to the traffic lights in the hope of getting something to eat for herself and her children. She has a cardboard sign and asks only for food – not money, not a fur coat, not a car. Just food."
