Police destroyed approximately 5,000 fully grown cannabis trees in Moruga on Tuesday, which had an estimated street value of $5 million.In a release yesterday, police said during a cannabis suppression exercise coordinated by ACP Tewarie of the Criminal Investigations Branch, teams of officers including those from the Jungle Operations Team, Southern Division Task Force and the Moruga Police Station went into the La Lune forest in Moruga.With assistance from the Police Aerial Unit, which used drones, officers discovered two cannabis fields covering approximately one and a half acres.The fields contained an estimated 5,000 fully grown cannabis trees.They were destroyed by burning.The police also destroyed several water containers and other cultivation equipment believed to have been used to maintain the illegal plantation.There were no arrests during the exercise.
