Andrew Chauke cleared: Analyst says inquiry's decision 'reflects badly on Batohi's career'

The Nkabinde Inquiry has cleared the South Gauteng Director of Public Prosecutions, Advocate Andrew Chauke, of all misconduct allegations levelled against him by former National Director of Public Prosecutions (NDPP) Shamila Batohi.

The South Gauteng Director of Public Prosecutions, Advocate Andrew Chauke has been cleared of all misconduct allegations and declared fit to hold office.

The decision comes after the Nkabinde Commission of Inquiry released its final report, which has been handed to President Cyril Ramaphosa.

The independent panel, chaired by retired Constitutional Court Justice Bess Nkabinde, found no evidence to substantiate allegations made against him by former National Director of Public Prosecutions (NDPP), Shamila Batohi.

Chauke was placed on a precautionary suspension on July 21, 2025, after Batohi accused him of making politically motivated prosecutorial decisions.
