Iran has executed Mehdi Khanaki after convicting him of collaborating with Israel and the United States, according to Iranian authorities. State judiciary outlet Mizan said Khanaki joined an unnamed armed opposition group in 2023 and carried out activities against the Iranian government. Officials claimed firearms, ammunition and explosive devices were recovered during his arrest in Karaj following an intelligence-led operation. The judiciary did not identify the alleged group or disclose details of the trial. The execution comes as Tehran continues a wider crackdown on dissent while repeatedly accusing Israel and the U.S. of backing armed networks inside Iran.
