A special government services and welfare camp for conservancy workers and their family members was conducted here on Wednesday (July 22, 2026).Minister for Handlooms, Textiles and Khadi M. Vijay Balaji inaugurated the camp at a private marriage hall on Poondurai Road in the presence of MLA K.K. Ananth Moghan and Corporation Commissioner Arpit Jain. Another camp was held at a marriage hall near the Central Bus Stand.The camp facilitated the registration and verification of waste pickers and their enrolment under the National Action for Mechanised Sanitation Ecosystem (NAMASTE) scheme. Eligible waste pickers seeking self-employment submitted applications for individual and group loans. Verified beneficiaries were issued NAMASTE identity cards to facilitate access to government welfare schemes.Applications were also received from self-help groups (SHGs) and waste pickers interested in establishing Dry Waste Collection Centres (DWCCs). The camp provided access to social security schemes, insurance, pension benefits, skill development programmes and credit-linked assistance.Registration under the Tamil Nadu Sanitation Workers Welfare Board was also carried out. Eligible workers availed themselves of schemes such as marriage and maternity assistance, livelihood support, old-age pension, accident relief, educational assistance, and compensation for natural death and death during service.Health services, including medical insurance enrolment, general health check-ups and skin disease screening, were also provided. Government departments offered Aadhaar enrolment and correction, issuance of family cards, community and income certificates, educational assistance, skill development programmes and alternative livelihood training.
