Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps launched a barrage of ballistic missiles at US-operated air bases in Jordan, killing two American service members and damaging aircraft, drones, and command facilities. The strikes, which Iran has branded “Operation Nasr 2,” represent a dramatic escalation in US-Iran hostilities.
At least ten ballistic missiles, including the Kheibar Shekan variant, were fired at the Muwaffaq Salti Air Base near Al-Azraq between July 9 and July 14. Jordan’s military intercepted several of the incoming projectiles, but enough got through to cause real damage.
What happened on the ground
Iran claimed it successfully struck command-and-control facilities and drone hangars at the base. Two US service members were confirmed killed, with several others wounded across the multi-day assault.
The US responded with retaliatory airstrikes targeting IRGC assets inside Iran.
