To put that in perspective, the 2022 World Cup final between Argentina and France drew roughly 25.8 million US viewers. The 2026 final more than doubled that number.
The numbers behind the record
The final, which took place around July 19-20, averaged 38.9 million viewers on FOX. At its peak, that number climbed to 51.7 million.
The previous record for the most-watched soccer telecast in US history was 26.5 million viewers, set during the 2014 World Cup final between Germany and Argentina. The 2026 final didn’t just break that record. It obliterated it by a factor of roughly 2.4x.
