The BBC quizshow is hosted by Roman Kemp and Sarah Greene, and first aired in 2023.20:51, 21 Jul 2026A contestant on BBC quizshow The Finish Line has exposed what it was really like.‌The game show first aired in 2023, starring Roman Kemp and Sarah Greene as co-hosts.‌It sees five contestants compete in four rounds, slowly being whittled down to the final player in the last round as they attempt to win £5,000.‌They cross the finish line to remain in the game as they answer quick fire questions and go head-to-head in topics like Pictures and Missing Letters while on moving podiums running along racetrack lanes.A contestant on a previous series has now revealed what it was really like, answering questions on Reddit.‌After filming in March 2025, he shared: “All presenters/crew on TFL were absolutely amazing and so lovely.”Responding to one person’s comment that standing on the podium “looks so goofy and fun”, he replied: “It does feel very goofy - you can gesture and a lot do in celebration as they reach the Finish Line and progress to the next round. I was too ‘locked in’ and focused on the questions to think about gesturing.“I recall a guy from the series I was on who was pretty far behind from the others and was flapping his arms about like an idiot whilst riding, as if to say ‘ref, what’s going on?’ Thankfully, he was eliminated fairly early on.”‌He added: “It does feel very weird tbh - not helped by the sluggish pace those things move at (slower than it looks). I kept composed, just!”He also praised host Roman Kemp as a “lovely bloke” before defending him against “nepo-baby allegations”.‌The contestant shared: “He was really nice but dipped from the set when the cameras weren’t rolling (though seemed pretty committed to the job at the same time, e.g. reading all of his questions beforehand, checking we could all hear from the back etc).“Lovely bloke! The nepo-baby allegations annoy me - for me, a nepo-baby is someone who directly copies one of their famous parents’ professions. Roman isn’t a musician or singer, so there.”The gameshow, which is currently airing weekdays with repeat episodes, was first announced in 2023, with filming taking place in Belfast.‌At the time, Roman, whose parents are musicians Martin Kemp and Shirlie Holliman, shared: “I’m so excited to be hosting The Finish Line, coming to BBC One later this year.“I’m a huge fan of quiz shows and with this being my first time hosting one, I really can’t wait to get stuck in.‌“I love that it’s a brand-new format but based on an iconic horse-racing fairground game.“The show is set to be challenging and unpredictable; we know that viewers will be hooked!”Sarah added: “This will be fantastic fun and so I am really looking forward to working with Roman on this new format.Article continues below“It’s all about high-energy, high-drama racing and quickfire questions, and I’ll be bringing my A-game to ensure that Roman and the contestants are kept on the straight and narrow.”The Finish Line is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
