OpenAI says the agentic side of ChatGPT has passed 10 million weekly users, a mark it reached less than two weeks after the debut of ChatGPT Work, its attempt to turn the chatbot into a tool that finishes a job rather than just describes one.
The figure, first reported by Bloomberg, spans the two products OpenAI now brands as agents: Codex, its coding assistant, and ChatGPT Work, the newer system that carries out multi-step tasks across a person’s apps and files.
What the number counts is worth pinning down, because the headline invites a generous reading. It refers to weekly active users of the two agentic products combined, not enterprise seats, paying customers, or the number of agents actually run.
It is also a company estimate rather than an audited metric, and OpenAI’s usage claims have drawn scepticism before, including over the self-reported figures behind its internal adoption research.

Codex passed 5 million weekly users at the end of May, reached 6 million on 12 July and roughly 8 million by the middle of the month, according to counts OpenAI executives posted as each threshold fell.
