The Hellenic Coast Guard on Tuesday issued a statement on the collision between two vessels at Souda port near Hania, Crete, confirming that no injuries or marine pollution were reported.
The passenger ferry Elyros collided with the cargo vessel Iosif K. while departing the port. The ferry was scheduled to sail to Piraeus with 100 passengers and 118 crew members aboard.
Both vessels were initially barred from sailing pending inspections. After a damage assessment and review by a classification society, the Elyros was cleared to continue its scheduled operations.
The Iosif K. remains under a sailing ban pending inspection by the relevant maritime authority.
The Coast Guard said it is investigating the cause of the incident and has begun legal proceedings under the direction of prosecutors. Administrative penalties are also being considered.
