A 30-year-old woman delivered her fourth child, a baby boy, in a 108 ambulance while being taken from Bargur Hills to the Government Hospital in Anthiyur here in the early hours of Tuesday (July 21, 2026).According to sources, Roja, wife of Murugan, from Chinna Sengulam village in the Bargur Hills, developed severe labour pain at around 3.58 a.m. Her family alerted the 108 Emergency Ambulance Service, following which an ambulance from Oosur reached the village, provided first aid, and began transporting her to the Government Hospital in Anthiyur.While the ambulance was descending the hill, her labour pain intensified. As it was not possible to reach the hospital in time, that is about 20 km away, Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Boopathy, with the assistance of ambulance driver Kumaresan, halted the vehicle at a safe location and conducted the delivery inside the ambulance.The woman delivered a healthy baby boy through a normal delivery. After administering post-delivery care, the mother and newborn were shifted to the Government Hospital in Anthiyur.Doctors said both the mother and the baby were doing well.
