Samsung is asking hundreds of its US employees to make a career-defining decision: pack up and move more than 2,000 kilometers from New Jersey to Texas, or find a new job. The tech giant is relocating its American headquarters from Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey, to Plano, Texas, in a restructuring that puts 739 positions in play.
Most affected employees have been offered relocation packages, while others have already been shown the door through preliminary layoffs. Samsung hasn’t disclosed how many people accepted the move, how many declined, or how many roles have been permanently eliminated.

Texas has been aggressively courting major tech companies for years. Samsung already has a massive semiconductor fabrication plant in Taylor, Texas, making the Plano headquarters move a natural consolidation of its Lone Star footprint.
