New Zealand Prime Minister Tuisinavemaulumoto’otua Christopher Luxon has described Samoa as a trusted partner following bilateral talks with Prime Minister Laaulialemalietoa Leuatea Schmidt in Wellington on Tuesday.
“The Pacific is our neighbourhood and Samoa is a trusted partner in it,” Tuisinavemaulumoto’otua said on his official Facebook page. “It was a pleasure to welcome Prime Minister Laʻaulialemalietoa to Wellington.”
The two leaders met at the Beehive as part of Laʻaulialemalietoa’s official visit to New Zealand.
According to the Samoan Government's statement, discussions covered labour mobility, economic cooperation, trade, migration, regional cooperation and the relationship between the two countries. Rugby union and rugby league were also discussed.
The Government said officials had begun identifying issues in the Treaty of Friendship, signed 64 years ago, and would discuss how the treaty could reflect the modern relationship.
