Researchers at Queen’s University Belfast have developed an inexpensive, 3D-printed flow battery that could help standardise worldwide development of the technology, which is believed could help scale up renewable energy projects.
Separately, Chinese researchers developed a flowing zinc slurry battery that retained a high proportion of their original capacity after thousands of charge-discharge cycles, indicating improved durability.
The QUB researchers developed a flow battery based on iron, which is easier to source than the more costly vanadium often used in the technology.
