Suspended EMPD Brigadier Julius Mkhwanazi says he stands to lose R7m pension if denied bail.
The Johannesburg Magistrate's Court heard that suspended EMPD deputy chief Brigadier Julius Mkhwanazi earns R65 000 a month after deductions, owns assets worth about R2.5 million and household furniture valued at R300 000, and expects a pension payout of about R7 million.
Mkhwanazi is applying for bail after being charged in connection with the alleged theft of precious stones worth R14.9 million as reported by IOL.
The court also heard on Monday that Mkhwanazi had been in a romantic relationship with Witness K.
