Suspended EMPD Deputy Chief Brigadier Julius Mkhwanazi in the dock over the alleged of precious stones.
The matter against suspended EMPD deputy chief Brigadier Julius Mkhwanazi, his former lover and others was postponed until September by the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.
The group faces charges relating to the theft of precious stones worth R14.6 million. They are out on bail of R5,000 each.
Mkhwanazi and his partner, an inspector in the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department's VIP Protection Unit, identified as Witness K, were arrested during an intelligence-led operation by the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (Ipid).
They face charges of theft of precious stones.
