Members of factions of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) and other transport groups on Monday staged coordinated protests across major motor parks in Osun State over the recent wave of violence and killings linked to the state's transport sector, demanding urgent intervention from the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Disu, and other security agencies.
The demonstrations, which took place in Osogbo and several other motor parks across the state, saw scores of transport workers carrying placards and chanting solidarity songs over escalating insecurity, repeated attacks and killings that have thrown commercial transport activities into crisis.
The protesters said the persistent violence has created fear among transport workers, endangered commuters and disrupted businesses across motor parks in the state.
They called on the Inspector-General of Police and other security agencies to immediately investigate the incidents, arrest those responsible and ensure that perpetrators are prosecuted in accordance with the law.
