There was tension across motor parks in Osogbo, Osun State, on Monday following clashes between rival factions of the National Union of Road Transport Workers during a protest march.
A faction of the transport union, led by Mr Kazeem Oyewale, had stormed major streets in Osogbo to protest against the leadership of the Osun NURTW chairman, Nurudeen Alowonle.
The protesters, accompanied by police operatives, gathered at the Aregbe Motor Park and moved through major streets in the state capital before converging on Old Garage, where they clashed with the faction led by Alowonle.
The arrival of the protesters in the area heightened tension as members of the rival groups engaged in a clash, forcing many shop owners to hurriedly shut their businesses.
However, police operatives and Amotekun Corps personnel deployed to the area brought the situation under control, firing tear gas to disperse the drivers.
