Fuel prices in Bulgaria are expected to continue rising in the coming days, although the increase has so far been gradual due to existing fuel reserves and current market conditions, Dimitar Hadzhidimitrov from the Association of Bulgarian Fuel Traders, Producers, Importers and Transporters said.
Speaking on BNT, Hadzhidimitrov explained that fuel supplies remain available and that market mechanisms continue to determine prices. “When there is demand for something on the market, it is always found. There is fuel, and it has been proven that there will be for at least the next 100 years,” he said.
According to him, prices at Bulgarian gas stations are currently increasing at a relatively steady pace, partly because companies still have older stocks purchased at lower prices. He expressed hope that international tensions would ease and that a possible peace agreement would lead to more stable markets and lower prices for consumers.
“I really hope that the situation will calm down, that there will be a peace agreement and that we will see lower prices at the pumps,” Hadzhidimitrov said.
He pointed out that Bulgaria continues to have some of the lowest fuel prices in the European Union, largely due to the country’s lower excise tax levels. Compared with neighboring Serbia, fuel prices in Bulgaria remain slightly cheaper. Hadzhidimitrov added that wholesale margins across Europe are relatively small and that current prices reflect developments on international markets.
