Police and city officials collaborate during a significant operation targeting crime in Durban.
In an ongoing effort to curb crime and improve the image of Durban's city centre, a multi-departmental operation spearheaded by police was conducted at a notorious building in the early hours of Monday.
The squalid building, located on Lancers Road on the fringe of the CBD, is known for criminal activity, including prostitution and drug use. It was the focal point of the operation.
Given its reputation as a "major crime generator" in the area, the authorities' mission was to profile the building, which is situated near health facilities, taxi ranks, businesses and the Early Morning Market.
The operation involved SAPS, Durban Metro Police and a range of line departments, including Human Settlements, Social Facilitation, Fire Services, Building Inspectors, Water and Sanitation, Electricity, Durban Solid Waste (DSW), the Strategy Office, the IT Support Team, Security Management and Health.
