Police and city officials collaborate during a significant operation targeting crime in Durban.
A significant multi-departmental operation was conducted in Durban’s market area on Monday morning, targeting a building authorities identified as a “major crime generator” within the city.
The building, on Lancers Road, near health facilities, taxi ranks, businesses and the Early Morning Market, is a hub of activity.
The early morning operation involved SAPS, the Durban Metro Police Service and a wide range of line departments, including human settlements, social facilitators, fire, building inspectors, water, electricity, Durban Solid Waste (DSW), strategy office, I.T. support team, security management and health.
“The operation was to basically profile and see who is living in this building because it is one of the worst buildings in the city and it’s a major crime generator in the city,” said Metro Police Special Operations’ Brigadier Paboo Sewpersad.
