EThekwini launched a multi-agency raid on a Durban building that was suspected to be illegally occupied.
A building in Durban's central business district that was allegedly being illegally occupied was raided on Monday as eThekwini Municipality and law enforcement agencies intensified efforts to address unsafe properties, enforce municipal by-laws and restore order in the inner city.
The operation at 44 Lancers Road formed part of the municipality’s City Regeneration Programme, and involved a multi-agency team that included the Durban Metropolitan Police Service (DMPS), South African Police Service (SAPS), municipal departments and emergency services.
DMPS spokesperson Colonel Boysie Zungu said the operation focused on securing the building, identifying occupants and assessing the condition of the property.
“The area was secured so that officials could identify the people living in the building and inspect the condition of the property,” Zungu said.
