Ramanathapuram police seized 22 grams of methamphetamine drug and arrested four youths.On July 18, based on information regarding the possession and sale of methamphetamine, a police team led by Sub-inspector Thirumurugan of Kenikarai Police Station, secured Vetrivelan at Vandikara Street, Ramanathapuram, and enquired him.During the enquiry, Vetrivelan admitted that he used to purchase methamphetamine from Seeni Sahul Hameed of Keelakarai.Acting on the instructions of the police, Vetrivelan contacted Seeni Sahul Hameed and asked him to bring the contraband to the location.When Seeni Sahul Hameed arrived along with his associate Chiranjeevi Velavan of Erwadi, both were apprehended by the police.Further enquiry revealed that they had procured the methamphetamine from Madhan Raj of Vasantham Nagar.Based on the information, the police team immediately secured Madhan Raj near Kenikkarai Junction, where he was found in possession of four packets (approximately 4 grams) of methamphetamine. All four persons were brought to the police station for detailed enquiry.During further interrogation, Madhan Raj disclosed that the methamphetamine had been supplied by B. Tamaraiselvam alias Kosu bala, of Vasantham Nagar, Ramanathapuram.Acting on this information, the police conducted a follow up search at the residence of Tamaraiselvam, during which an additional 18 grams of methamphetamine was recovered. However, Tamaraiselvam managed to abscond after learning about the police action.Based on the evidence collected during the enquiry and subsequent search, a case was registered in Ramanathapuram Town Police Station under sections of the NDPS Act on Sunday (July 19).In addition to the narcotic substance, the police also seized bikes, 15 zip-lock covers, and one digital weighing machine, which were allegedly used for the storage and distribution of the contraband.With the recovery of the additional quantity, the total methamphetamine seized in the case is 22 grams.All four accused -Madhan Raj, Chiranjeevi Velavan, Vetrivelan, and Seeni Sahul Hameed - were formally arrested and remanded to judicial custody.Efforts are underway to apprehend the absconding supplier Tamaraiselvam and further investigation is in progress to identify other persons involved in the narcotic supply chain, said police officials.
