A 60-year-old man died after being hit by a Force Traveller van while crossing a highway near the Venur New Bus Shelter at Kelagina Pete in Venur on Sunday.The Venur police identified the deceased as Anand Poojary, 60.The police said Poojary was hit by the van while crossing the Moodbidri-Guruvayanakere State Highway towards Hariprasad Hotel at around 10 a.m. He was given first aid at a private clinic and later shifted to a multispecialty hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries at around 7 p.m.The Venur police have booked the van driver, Vinayak, under Sections 281 (rash driving or riding on a public way), 125(b) (act endangering life or personal safety of others) and 106 (causing death by negligence) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
