A North West man has been sentenced to a combined 22 years in prison after being convicted of attempting to murder his 10-month-old son and severely assaulting the child's 69-year-old grandmother during a violent family dispute.
The Madikwe Regional Court handed down the sentence on Friday following an incident that occurred at Tlokweng Village near Madikwe on January 4, 2024.
The 45-year-old accused received 15 years' direct imprisonment for attempted murder and seven years' direct imprisonment for assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm (GBH).
Police spokesperson Colonel Adéle Myburgh said the violence erupted during a verbal argument between the accused and the child's mother.
