Bangladesh observes July 16 as a day of remembrance for the students and ordinary people who lost their lives during the July 2024 movement for democracy and justice.
On this occasion, the Embassy of Bangladesh in Athens organized a reception to honor the courage and sacrifices of those who stood up for their beliefs and to recognize their important role in shaping the democratic future of the nation. Their courage and determination inspired millions of people across the country and reminded the world that peaceful voices can bring about meaningful change.
“Today, at our Embassy, we observe a day of historical importance. We remember the sacrifices of the young students in July 2024 that led us toward democracy and peace, and we honor the martyrs of the July Revolution of Bangladesh with humility,” said Ambassador Nahida Rahman Shumona in her speech.
“July 16 is also a day of hope. It reminds future generations that democracy, justice, and human rights must always be protected, and that ordinary people – especially young people – have the power to shape the future of their country.”
