Jordanian air‑defense systems intercepted and downed three Iranian missiles on Sunday, a development that came amid ongoing Iranian strikes in the country, including an attack on Friday that killed two American service members.
A fourth missile fell in a remote area of the country, Jordan’s state-run Petra news agency reported, citing a military source. The Iranian attacks caused no casualties or infrastructure damage, it said.
Earlier on Sunday, the U.S. Embassy in Amman said the airport and seaport at the Red Sea city of Aqaba had been evacuated due to a "specific and credible threat." Jordanian authorities then denied that an evacuation had happened and said operations continued as normal, the state-run Petra reported.
The U.S. military targeted Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps forces that launched attacks against American service members in Jordan on Friday. U.S. Central Command said its forces hit Iranian military coastal surveillance and air defense facilities, maritime capabilities, and missile and drone storage sites.
Iranian drones targeted U.S. military assets and equipment at Kuwait’s Al-Adiri camp and Ali Al Salem Air Base, Iran’s state TV reported Sunday, citing a statement from the army. Bahrain sounded warning sirens on Sunday before saying it had intercepted a wave of Iranian aerial attacks.
