At last, we are here: The Odyssey. Written and directed by Christopher Nolan, anything he did post-Oppenheimer would be worth paying attention to, even when we first thought he was tackling helicopters or vampires. Nobody probably thought he’d dip a toe into Greek mythology next (if ever), but he went and did that, stacked the cast with alums from his prior films and interesting new additions to his catalog, and made the film while everyone else wondered and debated how he’d adapt Homer’s famous epic. Even before the marketing really kicked in, Universal sure seemed confident that The Odyssey would be its big 2026 movie, hence selling tickets a year in advance. Given Nolan’s track record, the studio wasn’t wrong; with every preview and soundbyte, interest kept on building up. At time of writing, the verdict has been that Nolan’s got another winner on his hands. It’s gotten a pretty strong critical reception, and last-ditch grifts be damned, audiences sure started feeling it from day one. (And well before that, even). That love may continue in the weeks ahead, even with some competition from a certain movie that shares three of its stars.
