Councillor Bongani Ngcombolo is concerned about the neglect shown to informal settlements by the City of Cape Town.

Ward 40 councillor Bongani Ngcombolo has expressed concern over what he describes as a lack of progress in developing informal settlements in Gugulethu and surrounding areas, following a deadly shack fire in Kanana.

His comments come after a fire claimed the life of 23-year-old Bukho Maqashu on July 12.

Maqashu's body was discovered after a shack caught alight in the Kanana informal settlement. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

The City of Cape Town's Fire and Rescue Service reported that firefighters were alerted to the blaze at about 10:20pm.
