As of 17 July 2026, the BIC has confirmed 55 Baha'is (31 women, 24 men) detained solely for their beliefs across at least 12 prisons and intelligence facilities, with many enduring torture, forced confessions, and denied medical care. An additional 19 are under electronic monitoring, while several detainees are held in undisclosed locations, raising serious due‑process concerns.
It was learned on 13 July 2026 that Mr. Borna Naimi, a 29-year-old Baha’i from Kerman, has remained in detention for 135 days without a final judicial decision. Despite the completion of court proceedings more than a month ago, no verdict has been issued or communicated to either Mr. Naimi or his legal counsel. The hearing of the charges against Mr. Naimi was held on 25 May 2026 before the Revolutionary Court in Kerman. However, more than a month after the court hearing, authorities have neither issued nor formally notified him of a verdict. Judicial officials have refused to accept bail for his release pending a final decision.
It was learned on 12 July 2026 that Ms. Shideh Tavakkoli, a Baha’i resident of Tehran, has been sentenced by Branch 15 of the Tehran Islamic Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judge Abolghasem Salavati, to a total of 11 years of imprisonment, a monetary fine, and permanent disqualification from government and public service. The written verdict has not been given to her lawyer, who has only been allowed to view and take notes. Convicted on 20 May 2026 of "membership in anti-state groups," "propaganda against Islamic law," and "propaganda against the regime," she received 10 years and a 3.3 billion rial fine for the first two charges, plus one additional year for the third. The court also ordered confiscation of her electronic devices, Baha'i items, foreign currency, cash, two Tehran properties, and 187 billion rials. The verdict was served on her on 26 May and on her counsel on 30 May 2026.
