US President Donald Trump’s Board of Peace has reduced its plan to rebuild Gaza to a pilot settlement near Rafah, after months of Israeli restrictions, funding shortfalls and continued Israeli military attacks blocked work across the territory.

The revised project would house tens of thousands of displaced Palestinians, a small share of Gaza’s population.

The original plan promised the restoration of water, electricity, sewage networks, hospitals and bakeries across Gaza within 100 days. Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, presented the programme in January as a territory-wide recovery scheme backed by international funding and a new administrative structure.
