HAVING made invaluable contributions towards education, sport, and community upliftment over several decades, Manicum Munien stands as a beacon of inspiration.

Munien, 94, of Verulam, is among 51 people who have been honoured in the newly-launched book, The Unsung Heroes - volume four.

He shared his journey from humble beginnings.

Munien, the fifth of nine children, was born on Groenberg Farm in Inanda on November 26, 1931.
