The Dis-Chem Foundation’s flagship Million Comforts Campaign has evolved beyond providing sanitary products into a holistic programme that supports public school learners across South Africa.
Building on its mission to keep girls in school by providing sanitary pads, the campaign has entered a new phase focused on inclusivity, sustainability, and long-term learner development. The upgraded initiative was launched at Willow Crescent Secondary School in Eldorado Park, where 1,600 learners gathered to celebrate this milestone.
Originally created to address period poverty, the Million Comforts Campaign has evolved to support the broader health and development of all learners. Focusing on non-fee-paying government schools, it equips learners with the confidence, skills and support they need to thrive.
“Schools should be safe, supportive spaces for learning, yet many learners face daily challenges linked to limited access to hygiene products, health services and mentorship, which directly affects confidence and academic participation,” says Jacqueline Kahlberg from The Dis-Chem Foundation.
