The US State Department has approved a possible Foreign Military Sale to Greece valued at an estimated $80.1 million for Switchblade 300 Block 20 loitering munitions and related equipment, the US government said.
The proposed sale includes 350 Switchblade 300 Block 20 loitering munitions, 35 fire control systems and associated support equipment. The Defense Security Cooperation Agency has notified Congress of the possible sale, which must complete the congressional review process before it can proceed.
According to US officials, the proposed procurement is intended to strengthen the operational capabilities of Greece’s armed forces by providing man-portable, tactical precision-strike systems for the Hellenic Armed Forces’ Special Warfare Command.
The package is expected to establish an initial operational capability for the Switchblade 300 system, a lightweight loitering munition designed for reconnaissance and precision engagement of targets at short range. The proposed acquisition also includes equipment intended to support interoperability with the larger Switchblade 600 system, allowing for common charging infrastructure and streamlined logistics.
The systems are expected to enhance Greece’s ability to conduct rapid-response reconnaissance and precision strikes, particularly in areas of strategic importance such as the Evros border region and islands in the eastern Aegean.
