The eThekwini Municipality appointed Malusi Mhlongo as Executive Director: Office of the City Manager and Dr Sandile Mnguni as Chief Financial Officer.
Two days ahead of the deadline, eThekwini Municipality has appointed Dr Sandile Mnguni as CFO and Malusi Mhlongo as Executive Director: Office of the City Manager, marking significant leadership changes.
The appointments were confirmed on Wednesday when an urgent council meeting was called to meet the statutory timelines prescribed by the local government regulations on appointment and conditions of employment of senior managers.
The municipality had to make the appointments by July 18, 2026, to avoid adverse consequences.
Mnguni was permanently appointed as CFO following a competitive national recruitment process. He was on a five-year contract since taking over the CFO position left vacant when Krish Kumar retired in 2021.
