The eThekwini Municipality appointed Dr Sandile Mnguni (right) as Chief Financial Officer and Malusi Mhlongo as Executive Director: Office of the City Manager.
Two days before the deadline, the eThekwini Municipality approved the appointments of Dr Sandile Mnguni as Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and Malusi Mhlongo as Executive Director: Office of the City Manager.
The appointments were confirmed on Wednesday when an urgent council meeting was called to meet the statutory timelines prescribed by the local government regulations on appointment and conditions of employment of senior managers.
The municipality had to make the appointments by July 18, 2026, to avoid adverse consequences.
Mnguni was permanently appointed as CFO following a competitive national recruitment process. He was on a five-year contract since taking over the CFO position left vacant when Krish Kumar retired in 2021.
