A judge has ordered that the public pick up a convicted sex offender’s $50,000 legal tab due to delayed disclosure of records by Toronto police and the “deliberately uncooperative” detective in charge of the case.
Superior Court Justice Gillian Roberts took the rare step of ordering costs against the Crown — the provincial government — last month, in the case of a man who, after accusing his partner of cheating, ripped off her pants, attempted to penetrate her digitally and tried to shove her tampon in her mouth while threatening to kill her.
