DKMS Africa is urging the public to use their 67 minutes this Mandela Day to register as stem cell donors.
Residents in Soweto will have the opportunity to learn more about blood cancer and support families affected by the disease when DKMS Africa hosts a Mandela Day community activation at Maponya Mall on Friday.
The event forms part of a wider campaign encouraging South Africans to use their 67 minutes to support people living with blood cancer and other blood disorders who are searching for life-saving stem cell donors.
The DKMS Africa team will engage with community members and leaders at Maponya Mall, raising awareness about blood cancer symptoms, including persistent fatigue, unexplained bruising or bleeding, recurring infections, swollen lymph nodes, unexplained weight loss and prolonged fevers.
The organisation will also visit the Childhood Cancer Foundation South Africa (CHOC) to deliver care packs to children receiving cancer treatment and their families.
