Samoa’s import prices increased by 21.2 per cent in the June 2026 quarter, driven by a sharp rise in the cost of imported petroleum products.

The Samoa Bureau of Statistics’ Import Price Index showed mineral product prices rose by 55.9 per cent compared with the March quarter.

The increase was mainly driven by petroleum oils, which rose by 62.9 per cent, while petroleum gas prices increased by 4.1 per cent.

Compared with the June 2025 quarter, mineral product prices were 53.6 per cent higher. However, the average index for the year ending June 2026 increased by 6.2 per cent compared with the previous year.

Overall import prices were 19.5 per cent higher than in the June quarter last year. For the four quarters ending June 2026, the index was 4.6 per cent higher than the previous corresponding period.
